Favorite Books of All Time Pt. 1

Bild
Out of all the books I have read so far in my life, many of them will stay with me forever. Be it because of the story or how I came to love these books. It's always enjoyable to see what everyone's favorite books are so I decided to tell you about mine. There will be more parts as I have so many favorites and I will always find new favorites. For now I'll start with the first ten. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien Genre: Fantasy Age Range: Children and older Page Count: 389 (Harper Collins paperback) Rating: 4/5 When the movies were coming out I decided to finally get around to reading this book. Teen me had tried reading LOTR but I never managed to read it completely until last year. But I thought maybe since this is shorter I will have it easier reading it. I was right and this way I finally got around to reading LOTR later on. The Hobbit as a book was adorable, magical, and a bit like a fairytale. As it is a children's book it's not surprising...

[Essay + Review] The Case for the Star Wars Prequels

Star Wars, a galaxy full of many races, worlds, ideologies, and droids, has affected most of our lives at some point (mostly in the western part of the world). We all heard the (wrong) line "Luke, I am your father" before and most of us know what a lightsaber is even if we haven't watched any of the movies. This world had a cultural impact on us and so it's no surprise that passion runs hot for every little bit of it, be it Canon or Legends, tv shows or movies, comics or books, computer games or toys. © Lucasfilm/Disney; screenshot taken by me from TPM How I came to love Star Wars I was eight when The Phantom Menace came out, the right age for these movies. I saw a bunch of toys marketed towards kids in the magazines I read (mostly the Sailor Moon comics which were a comic version of the anime) but as the only "girly" thing I saw was a blow-up arm chair made to look like Padmé and had the name "Queen Amidala" on it I never cared much. I d...

[Movie Review] Unicorn Store

Bild
" The most adult thing you can do is failing in what you really care about." © Netflix, copied from Serienjunkies' page When I decided to watch this movie I already felt like this would probably again be one of those movies that is made for a certain group only. I was right, also because I knew it would be a movie that really touched me. Unicorn Store directed by Brie Larson (her first directing job) - who also acts as the main character - is the story of a young woman called Kit who loves a colorful and creative life. She sadly fails at art school and to feel like she's not a failure she takes on a job as a temp. At the same time she gets a mysterious note asking her to come to The Store, a place that will change her life and give her what she needs. The movie is on the shorter side, the length of a tv movie basically. But because of its premise it's fitting. This isn't a story you need to drag out for two hours. This is a story about a young woman...

[Reading] March 2019 Wrap-up

Bild
As I started to review movies and books online I realized I need to dust off this blog again. One thing you will see on here now are Monthly Wrap-Ups of books I read with more detail than I'll post on Instagram and in the coming month I will also put my full reviews on here instead of Goodreads. All reviews for my March reads you will find on Goodreads though. This month was a good reading month in my opinion. I read 10 books and 1 comic. I only DNFed one book but that mostly because I'm not in the mood for that one at the time. I will pick it up eventually. Not including the comic I read about 3,093 pages which averages to 99.77 pages per day. Also not including the DNFed book which was Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Books read: " The Rules of Magic " by Alice Hoffman - 4.5/5 ★ " Tannöd " by Andrea Maria Schenkel - 3.5/5  ★ (reviewed in German!) " How to Train Your Dragon #1 " by Cressida Cowell - 3.5/5  ★ " City of Ghosts ...
